Guard Scholarship Offer !!!
Hello All - I am David Boggs and I am the Director of Athletic Bands at McKendree University and the primary administrator for the Avidity Independent Winter Guards. I hope that you can assist me in spreading the word to the guard directors in your circuit that the Avidity Independent Open and Avidity Independent A Winter Guards of McKendree University are currently offering an unlimited number of $4,000 scholarships for full-time students who participate in McKendree ‘s Marching Bearcat Band and Avidity Winter Guard program.
Avidity Independent Open placed 1st in the MCCGA Championships and 10th place at WGI Finals in 2013. This past weekend, the Open guard scored as the Independent Open Champion of the WGI St. Louis Regional. The Avidity A Guard placed 2nd in the MCCGA Championships in 2013 and also just placed 1st in their division at the 2014 WGI St. Louis Regional Competition. McKendree is dedicated to the growth and expansion of winter guard activity by potentially offering a new Color Guard Coaching Minor which, if approved by the McKendree faculty, could be offered as early as the 2015 spring semester. Currently, this minor is in the proposal stages.
McKendree University's scenic 100-acre Lebanon campus is located within 25 minutes of downtown St. Louis; offering 46 majors, 37 minors, 4 graduate programs and 1 doctoral program. McKendree also recently made the transition in 2013 to Division II status with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
To apply for a scholarship, students need to apply to the university, submit an audition request, and submit a video of your winter guard performing with some general indication of where you are in the drill at key points. Please submit any questions to David Boggs, McKendree University Bands at
or call 618-537-6492. Thanks for forwarding this on to your circuit membership and, subsequently, to the guard members in your circuit!
